AI phone ordering: answer the phone when your team can't.
AI phone ordering for restaurants, bars and counters: Tap2Order's AI voice agent answers the calls your team can't pick up, takes the order, and puts it on the same kitchen display as the orders guests place by tapping an NFC display or scanning the QR code. It is a $149/month add-on on any plan: Essential Core, Growth Engine or Pro Command.
Or see every plan and add-on. Fair use up to 1,000 call minutes a month.

What is AI phone ordering?
An automated voice agent answers your venue's phone, talks with the caller and takes the order. The phone rings hardest when nobody can reach it: the lunch line is out the door or the bar is three deep, and a caller who hears it ring out orders somewhere else. Tap2Order's agent covers that gap and does one job: it answers, takes the order, and the ticket lands in the staff portal next to your table orders.
It fits venues that already take phone orders and feel the rush: quick-service counters, restaurants doing takeout and bars with a kitchen. If your phone rarely rings, you probably don't need it; the worksheet below will tell you.
What does a missed call cost your venue?
Use one normal week from your phone system's missed-call log and your POS. No built-in assumptions, no sample results.
| Line | What it means | Your number |
|---|---|---|
| A | Missed calls per week | ________ |
| B | Share of calls that are orders (%), from a week's tally | ________ |
| C | Share of missed callers who didn't ring back within the hour (%) | ________ |
| D | Average phone or takeout order ($) | ________ |
| E = A × B × C × D × 4.33 | Monthly sales at risk from missed order calls | ________ |
| F = $149 ÷ (D × your gross margin %) | Recovered orders a month that cover the add-on | ________ |
If E is small, the add-on isn't worth it for you, and we would rather say so. If F is a handful of orders against dozens of missed order calls a month, it is worth a conversation. Check minutes too: expected calls times your usual call length should sit under 1,000 a month.
How does Tap2Order's AI phone agent work?

A guest calls
Your team answers whenever they can. The agent is there for the calls they can't reach.
The agent takes the order
When staff can't pick up, the AI voice agent answers and takes the caller's order.
The order lands in the portal
It appears in the staff portal, in the same live view your kitchen or bar uses for table orders.
One screen for phone and table orders, on any desktop, laptop, tablet or phone. We confirm how the agent runs at your venue on the onboarding call; see how it works for the full setup journey.
What the agent does, and what stays with your team
- POS integration. Orders go to the Tap2Order staff portal, not into your POS; custom integrations are scoped per venue on Pro Command.
- Card payments on the call. The agent doesn't take them. Take payment for phone orders the way you do today, for example at pickup.
- Reservations, catering quotes and complaints. The agent takes orders only; keep a clear route to a person.
- Allergy questions. They go to a trained member of staff, not a phone agent. The order accuracy guide explains why.
How does the price compare with other AI phone agents?
| Product | Published price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tap2Order AI voice ordering agent | $149/month add-on to a Tap2Order plan | Takes orders into the Tap2Order staff portal. Fair use up to 1,000 call minutes a month. |
| Slang AI | Core from $399/month per location; Premium from $599; Enterprise custom | Standalone. Centers on reservations, call routing and missed-call capture. |
| Loman | On request | Starter and Premium tiers; Premium lists takeout ordering and POS integration. |
| Popmenu AI Answering | $349/month listed | Part of Popmenu's restaurant platform. |
A fair reading: on Essential Core, table ordering plus the phone agent comes to $446 a month. The others are phone-first and some do things we don't claim, such as reservations. If the phone is your only problem, a dedicated phone product may suit you better; if you want table and phone orders in one portal, the add-on is simpler. Prices verified September 2026 from each vendor's public page; check with them before you decide.
AI phone ordering questions
What does fair use up to 1,000 call minutes mean?
The add-on covers up to 1,000 minutes of calls handled by the agent each month. Above that, we contact you before anything extra is billed and agree the right option with you in writing.
Will callers know they are talking to an AI?
Yes. The agent says so at the start of every call. If your venue has its own recording or disclosure requirements, tell us during onboarding and we set the greeting to match.
Does the agent replace staff on the phone?
No. Your team answers when they can. The agent picks up the calls they can't reach, usually in the rush.
Do I need the Pro plan to get it?
No. It is the same $149 on every plan. Pro Command adds other tools, such as a two-week demand forecast, live food cost % and up to 5 locations; see features by plan.
Can I try the phone agent in the demo?
Not yet. The public interactive demo shows table ordering and a kitchen view with a sample venue. To talk through the phone agent, book a 15-minute call or call (302) 463-0442.
